Romero Britto - artetrama

Romero Britto

Romero Britto was born in the coastal city of Recife in northern Brazil, in 1963. The seventh of nine children, he had to develop his skills at an early age, using art to give expression to his fantasies, drawing on paper or any other means he could have at his disposal, whether it was ink, pencil, crayons or paint in his hands.

In 1979, Britto had his first exhibition at the Organization of the United States in Brasilia, showing himself before a large audience. Despite having sold many of his works, he enrolled in law school pursuing other career goals. Upon the beginning of the third semester, he realized that was not his way so he sold his car and went to Europe to study art.

In 1987, Britto was in Florida hoping to settle there and have a future as an artist in the American market. Once he finds an agent in the art world, he opens his own gallery. In 1989, Absolut Vodka will proposed him to be part of its reserve of artists, who included many well-known, such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring or Ed Ruscha. This partnership resulted in a great boost for Britto's artistic career.

Thereafter, Britto's work has appeared in over sixty exhibitions throughout the world, as FIAC in Paris, the Art Hall in Hong Kong, and many tours, in addition to having captivated great collectors like Pepsi Cola International , Apple Computers and Movado, and have offers to work with companies such as Disney, Evian and Volvo. Internationally, Britto has exhibited in major museums in cities like London, Stockholm, Madrid, Tokyo ...

Through vibrant colors, youthful themes and compositions drawn to the limit, Romero Britto captures the attention of both the best educated in art and collectors as well as those not very interested in the field. Thus, Britto has become a benchmark in Florida and his art has achieved a very significant presence in the American, European and Asian market.

Britto shows his personal experiences through endless themes made by using multiple techniques. Instantly recognizable, his work stands out for being modern, colorful and striking. His style combines pop with more typical compositions of Cubism. In an effort to bring their art to the masses, Britto insists on reinterpreting the art and expresses it through ordinary situations.

To date, Romero Britto maintains its great artistic activity, arranging it with his humanitarian work for organizations like Red Cross, while maintaining his philosophy of "Art is too important not to share it".

Today, among the many private collectors who own his work and many of whom have made portraits we can find: Swedish Royal Family, former President George Bush, Whitney Houston, Roger Federer, Dustin Hoffman, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Jordan, Gloria Estefan, Andre Agassi, Eileen Guggenheim, David Rockefeller and Senator Ted Kennedy, as many other political figures, arts and media personalities.
