This work, as well as "Figura sobre la hierba" (Figure on the grass) or "Figura en paisaje" (Figure in landscape) belong to a period in which Rafael Canogar abandons informalism for realism. This change might seem a bit sharp but it makes sense if we keep in mind the timing in which it comes up. And this is because this style, ranging from 1964 to 1975, appears in the last years of the Spanish dictatorship and thus the need of the artist to express a social criticism that would be unreachable for the viewer through abstraction.
