Di Restoran is a work by Roby Dwi Antono that encapsulates his distinctive style, a fusion of pop surrealism and symbolism imbued with nostalgia. In this image, a melancholic-looking girl sits at a table, where a glass rabbit rests. Her serene yet enigmatic expression reinforces the sense of mystery that permeates the composition.
Antono's characters often feature childlike faces with large, expressive eyes that convey vulnerability and wonder. However, this apparent innocence is tinged with a sense of strangeness and duality. In Di Restoran, the image blends the ordinary with the dreamlike, creating an atmosphere open to multiple interpretations. The glass rabbit can be read as a symbol of fragility, transparency, or even transformation, recurring elements in the artist’s work.
The mastery of light and texture in this piece enhances the ethereal quality of the scene. The atmosphere is carefully crafted through a soft, diffused color palette that reinforces the introspective tone of the composition. The scene, while seemingly simple, is rich with emotional and narrative nuances that evoke memories, dreams, and a sense of suspended time.
The work was published as a limited-edition screen print in collaboration with Moosey Art, reflecting Antono’s growing popularity in the contemporary art world. His ability to merge influences from magical realism, mythology, and pop culture has allowed him to establish a unique artistic identity, where each piece serves as a window into a deeply evocative visual universe.
